Extended Staff Team:Readers, Lay Evangelist & Pastoral Worker

 Lay Evangelist: Barry Byles.

Hi, I'm Barry Byles, the Lay Evangelist at All Saints. I'm married and have a son, a daughter, a son-in-law and a grandson!

In 1974 I joined the South Yorkshire Police and for the next 30 years worked as a police officer in Sheffield. During those years I found God to be my guide, my friend, my comforter and my Lord.

I'm constantly challenged by the fact that approximately 90% of the population do not go to church and have very little contact with Christianity. My passion is to reach out to make the good news of Jesus Christ more widely known in our communities. To that end I am involved with various outreach events at All Saints, such as the Alpha Course, and also with our link with our partnership church, Christ Church, Pitsmoor, Sheffield.

I am totally committed to seeing the church in the U.K. moving out from 'maintenance' to 'mission' and from 'survival' to 'revival'!!

I can be contacted through the parish office - 0114  268 7574

Geoff Snell

Reader: Geoff Snell. 0114 296 0432

I was licensed as a Reader in September 2008 after three years training with the Sheffield School of Ministry. I regularly lead services and preach.

Having had careers in biology, internal audit and fraud investigation I am now retired. My diverse careers have led to my having held an eccentric range of qualifications: a BSc in agricultural zoology, Fellowship of the Institute of Internal Auditors and membership of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

I am married to Lesley and we have two grown up daughters living away from Sheffield. My hobbies include railway history, wood turning and Egyptian percussion.

I came to faith in a Congregational church in London's south west suburban Bible-belt. I went to Leeds to study (at that time Sheffield was a dark mass of steel plants and marshalling yards seen from the M1). Lesley, a Lancashire lass, had moved south for university and work. We met when I returned home and married. Family circumstances made a move north necessary in 1989. God provided a job in Sheffield, a home on Abbey Lane and a welcoming church at All Saints.

I first felt the call to become a Reader in our first year in Ecclesall. Fourteen years had to pass before I could begin my training, during which time I was involved in youth work, led a home group, became a PCC member and served as church warden (but not all at the same time!).

Acceptance of Jesus' life, death and resurrection is the means of clearing our moral guilt, which opens the way to a living relationship with God. Without that step there is no hope. But, having made that step, what is it that God wants of us? That's the question all Christians should be asking and the one I seek to present answers to in my preaching. We know that Jesus said, "If you love me you will keep my commandments." But, we cannot do that unless we study our Bibles to understand what those are. My desire is that we will all know our Bibles so that we know what God wants and can therefore do what he wants and therefore please him.

Pastoral Care Worker: Eric Phillips

Reader: Pat Kendall-Taylor

Pat Kendall-Taylor
Pat joined All Saints in May 2008 when she moved back to Sheffield, now retired, after 30 years in the North East. She was licensed as a Reader in Sept 2009, having completed the training previously while living in Northumberland.

It was when training at the Royal College of Music in London that Pat first heard the ‘Good News’ and became a follower of Jesus. It was a life-changing experience which brought with it a sense of the call of God to healing ministry as a doctor. After qualification at a London medical school, Pat moved to Sheffield and worked in various hospitals here undergoing specialist training. In 1978 she was appointed as consultant physician to the RVI Newcastle and later became a professor in the department of medicine at the University of Newcastle on Tyne.

Pat writes:
I am thrilled to be a member of ASE and feel very privileged to be accepted as a Reader here.
The call to Reader ministry resulted from a longing to share the good news of Jesus with people outside the church, together with the realisation that this might most appropriately be done under the aegis of the church. Jesus sent his disciples out to ‘proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick’ (Luke 9.2) and I believe that’s what we present-day followers should be doing too. It is sad that people are missing out on the amazing blessings that could be theirs, just because they haven’t heard or haven’t understood that God loves them and wants what is good for them. If people only knew and grasped this truth surely they would be flocking to follow Jesus. What’s not to love about a God who sends His son to rescue and help us, make us new and give us ‘life in abundance’!

Church Army Evangelist: Louise Yaull. L YaullMy name is Louise Yaull and I was commissioned as a Church Army Evangelist in July 2007 and have been a member of All Saints congregation since then. I am married to Julian and we have three daughters called Rebecca, Rachel and Hannah.

I spent twenty years working as a registered nurse in Sheffield hospitals prior to my ministry training and now work as a chaplain in GP practices based at Greystones, Norfolk Park and Crosspool. Part of my ministry involves linking patients and their families to other sources of support in their local communities, which includes churches, such as All Saints Ecclesall.

Church Army's mission is to ‘go' to the least, the last and the lost and not to wait for people to come to our churches. It is very exciting to be able to share the good news of Jesus Christ with many people who come looking for help with many difficult life issues and to work closely with the healthcare team, churches and local communities in finding ways to support them.

I can be contacted via the parish office - 0114  268 7574
