Baptism

Enquiring about Baptism?
We would be please to discuss the Baptism of your child with you. We are delighted to welcome children and their families into the fellowship of the Church.

Baptisms of infants are conducted during our morning service which starts at 11.00am usually on the 4th Sunday of the month.  To make arrangements please initially contact the Parish Office on 0114 268 7574.
Our Baptism Visitors (lay members of our church family) will make arrangements to visit you. They will be your friendly face in church. They will explain about the Baptism and Thanksgiving Services. They will make arrangements for you and your family to be able to sit together as a group during the service. And most importantly they will explain any doubts you may have about the meaning of Baptism and the promises that you have to make.
Baptisms are preceded by a Service of Thanksgiving which usually happens a month or two before the Baptism Service at our Family Service.

Baptism

Baptism of teenagers or adults is usually undertaken as part of the Confirmation Service, held in March each year.
In preparation for Confirmation a course of study is undertaken. For adults this is called the Emmaus Course and is usually run by the vicar over a period of 6 weeks in the vicarage. For teenagers there is a course which is part of our youth programme.
Often teenagers or adults choose to a have a ‘full immersion' rather than using the font. We have a large pool for this purpose and everyone gets very wet including the Bishop!
